The Little Joy of a Good Bookmark

A bookmark may be small, but readers know it matters.

Yes, we can use a receipt.
Yes, we can use a napkin.
Yes, some brave people fold the corner of the page.

But a real bookmark just feels better.

It says, “I am a reader, and I came prepared.”

There is something fun about sliding a bookmark into a paperback and knowing your story is waiting for you. Maybe the bookmark is pretty. Maybe it has a quote on it. Maybe it came from an author, a bookstore, or a book event. Maybe it has been living in your purse for months and somehow still shows up when you need it.

That is part of the charm.

Bookmarks are one of those little reader things that make reading feel cozy. They belong next to coffee mugs, tucked into beach bags, sitting on nightstands, or hiding between the pages of a book you keep saying you are going to finish.

And let’s be honest, some bookmarks are so cute you almost want to collect them more than use them.

Almost.

As an author, I love the idea of readers having bookmarks for my books. It is a small way to make the reading experience feel personal. A bookmark travels through the story with you, chapter by chapter, holding your place until you are ready to come back.

Because sometimes life interrupts.

The phone rings.
The laundry needs folding.
Someone asks what’s for dinner.
You fall asleep after reading the same paragraph three times.

That is when a bookmark steps in and does its job.

It keeps your place without judgment.

So here is to bookmarks: the tiny heroes of every reader’s life.

Simple, useful, cute, and always ready to save the page.
